As our students start to move through Elementary, we at Sweeny Christian School work hard to foster an environment that meets our students where they are and help them grow and excel in their academics and in their faith.
Sweeny Christian School uses ABEKA, which offers a comprehensive, biblically-based curriculum with a traditional spiral learning approach. Our trained teachers provide high academic standards with captivating lessons that build from day to day and year to year. We strive not to just shape what our students know, but who they become with character-building content that reinforces biblical values throughout each subject.
The core subjects taught are Bible, Language Arts, Reading (Phonics), Math, Science, Physical Education, and Social Studies.
Chapel is held weekly.
The foundation for all learning.
Our students participate in Bible daily through prayer, Scripture memorization, and Bible instruction, taught by their teacher. On Wednesdays, students attend Chapel service to praise and worship God, which is lead by C of C Preacher, Ken Hysten. Students also participate in mission projects such as Operation Christmas Child and Arms of Hope Donation Drives, as well as local acts of service for members in our own community. Students are led through the stories and truths of the Old and New Testaments, including Bible doctrine and application at an age-appropriate level. It is our goal to reach our students with the gospel and guide them in developing a biblical worldview.
SCS utilizes the OLSAT and Standford-10 Assessments to evaluate the progress of each student, as well as our SCS programs.
The Stanford Achievement Test Series helps identify academic strengths and weaknesses in both individuals and groups. The Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) is an aptitude test used to estimate students’ reasoning and problem-solving skills. Unlike assessment tests which measure what a student has already learned, aptitude tests are designed to measure intellectual ability, focusing on analytic and problem-solving skills rather than specific knowledge.
Our Elementary students have the privilege of going on Field Trips throughout the school year. In October, students get to visit the Brazoria County Fair where they view their submitted art work that is on display, explore the Youth Education Barn, visit many animals, and enjoy a funnel cake or fried oreos from the SCS Funnel Cake Booth. Students will also attend other field trips both in the fall and spring. Past field trips have
been to the Houston Zoo, Froberg's Farm, Crocodile Encounter, and Schulman's Movie, Bowl, and Arcade.
